To be clear, what’s going on is that the Governor of Texas is using the National Guard to block US border patrol from accessing the border, and using language that is very similar to that in the articles of secession to justify it.
This is going to last all of 20 minutes when things come to a head.

In part, this strikes me as practice insurrection. Mobilize a military force and see how the Fed responds, knowing you’ll back down before things go really hot.

So far, the only people who’ve seen and faced consequences for Jan 6 are the sorts that are entirely…disposable. Even the “leaders” of the militias… they’re a dime a dozen. They can get warm bodies to flesh out the ranks, but you gotta lock up the people who are using said warm bodies.
Few things would make me happier than Abbott (and Ken Paxton and Dan Patrick) being hauled to prison in…how about northern Minnesota.

Even an ‘official’ insurrection would not go very far. Most people don’t want it and wouldn’t take part. There might be resistance pockets here and there, but that’s it. Who is going to leave their job, grab a gun and go fight when they’re living paycheck-to-paycheck?
By April 1862, the south had to impose a draft. The north subsequently did the same.

Texas has Ft. Bliss inside it’s borders, so the chances of the govt. actually allowing them to secede are in line with rocking horses crapping gold.
