A Justice Department lawyer mirrored Trump officials’ aggressive position in the case of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported to a prison in El Salvador in March.
I don’t think you can use contempt outside of the courtroom.
Like if the court rules you can’t deport someone and you do after the fact, you can’t hold the gov or lawyer in contempt after the ruling takes place. If it’s an ongoing case, sure. But if there is a final ruling that’s ignored, I don’t think the judicial branch has any power over the executive for ignoring them.
Checks and balances procedure would be impeachment by the house.
What is this, like the third or fourth different take from the administration on this case?
Still waiting for the Supreme Court (and several federal courts) to actually do something about their order being unlawfully ignored.
Like?
Holding members of the administration in contempt and tossing increasingly more of their asses in jail until they do comply.
Send in the Marshalls already. Deputize me, I’ll go, ffs.
