Summary
Minnesota Republican state Sen. Justin Eichorn, who introduced a bill classifying “Trump Derangement Syndrome” as a mental illness, was arrested for allegedly soliciting sex from a minor.
Police say Eichorn believed he was meeting a 16-year-old girl but was actually texting undercover officers. His arrest came just a day after he and four other Republican senators introduced the controversial bill.
Eichorn, who is married with four children, was booked into jail and will be transferred to the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center.
There are a lot of things happening right now that a younger-me would have thought was “straight up nonsense” and “impossible.”
I want to believe that proper protocol will be followed, but I also don’t believe there are limits to what the current GOP would try.
This isn’t a matter of “following the proper protocol” it’s that there is NO protocol. The action is specifically prohibited by law and is enforceable by a political enemy of President Trump. People comment about “A court has no ability to enforce it’s decisions.” but in this case it’s a STATE and they DO have the ability to enforce a decision.
Weren’t you just arguing that there is protocol that would prevent Trump from overreaching his authority?
That’s the “protocol” I’m hoping will be followed - the legal framework that would prevent such fuckery.
At the same time, I expect that those currently in charge of the U.S. see the law not as a barrier, but as an inconvenience.
