Recently Lemmy.World admins have heavily started pushing an MBFC bot in their bigger subs despite it being deeply unpopular with the users.

However rating propaganda was not enough for the mods as they are now actively fundraising for MBFC as well.

Evidence MBFC is ran by a Zionist:

The bias towards any pro-israel lobby website on MBFC is astoundingly obvious. Take for example UNWatch. UNwatch is still pushing the UNRWA is Hamas propaganda despite it being fully debunked by every country.

Surely a website like this spreading blatant propagands would have a poor MBFC. rating. Let’s check it out!

MBFC knows that UNWatch is an israeli lobby but just doesn’t think that’s very important for their credibility rating

For sites such criticizing israel it works the other way around.

They do not have to fail any fact checks, just being designated as a ‘hate group’ by an israeli lobby is enough for MBFC to become a questionable source.

This is known to the lemmy.world admins and mods

Over the course of the last 9 months I have pointed out multiple times in public and private messages that MBFC is an incredibly bad source of ratings. Multiple other users have also made summaries for the .World mods and admins over the last week (and before that).

The admins have willingly ignored this criticism and now added a donation link to the MBFC bot knowing full well what MBFC stands for. Lemmy.World is directly endorsing the Zionist media lobby.

    I noticed it a few times but when it gave a questionable reliability to Rolling Stone magazine, i wondered about it. This makes more sense now. I’ve since blocked it but thanks for this write up.

    Aren’t they also using ground news to “watch the watchmen”?

    I’m happy for the MBFC, and I saw overwhelmingly positive comments that it was being introduced to the communities.

        I think it’s far from perfect, and have made suggestions on improvements to the mods, but overall think it’s helpful.

        There is definitely a cohort of weirdos that are enraged by it and aren’t content with simply blocking it and feel they are the saviors of all Lemmy-kind and are fixated on eradicating it for everyone.

      I’m not necessarily fully agreeing with OP’s thesis that MBFC is a pro-Zionist project, but I definitely call into question UNWatch’s credibility rating.

      I myself debunked a highly flawed and biased article from UNWatch that was posted to [email protected] last month. The post was removed by the moderator (@[email protected]) after being determined as disinformation. (I can’t link to it, since it has been deleted, but of you want to see the details of my critique, check out this screenshot of my comment)

      Having seen that first hand, I would absolutely say that MBFC’s credibility rating system is, at the very least, questionable.

        And, for future reference to others, if you flag such posts and also make a comment in the post for why that source is unreliable, it saves us a lot of time trying to figure out whether or not that is true (although the bot is a help despite it’s flaws).

        Plus, even reliable sources can be wrong. It’s a lot easier for us to evaluate whether a post is misinformation if we’re told why the person reporting it believes it to be.

        Edit: Also, although I don’t remember this, you must have posted it to World News because I’m not a News moderator.

      You also seem to be conflating “biased” with “lack of credibility.

      You have not read my post at all because this is directly disproven with a mountain of evidence such as the falsed UNRWA = Hamas claims

    Does anyone have a suggested alternative for evaluating media sources? I generally don’t have too much of a problem with MBFC because I can dig in to see their rational for any given rating but I’d also be open to alternatives.

    Every time I see the bot it has negative karma. Seems like people don’t like it. It’s biased for sure too.
