The border between Mexico and America has a long history of bootleggers, drug traffickers and gun runners. Now egg smugglers can be added to that list.

Stop. Buying. Fucking. Eggs!
God damn Americans are fucking spoiled.
Honestly, this is the real problem. They hate musk and bezos, but won’t quit Twitter or Amazon. They’ll say fuck Facebook “but oh, gotta keep up with family”. High inflation and prices? Can’t disappoint at Christmas! Don’t wanna give up my lifestyle, and trump is offering a quick fix
Seriously. As an American, it’s infuriating hearing about the constant complaining about our state (completely justified worry and complaint, mind you), with absolutely ZERO action being taken. Even the most minor inconveniences people won’t bother putting up with.
“Well I’ve got a family to take care of and my mortgage is too high and rent is too much and I don’t have enough time off and “ well yeah so do I- and everyone fucking else. People have thrown fists in MUCH more difficult circumstances. I understand it’s hard. I really fucking do. But if no one’s willing to even get off of Facebook or boycott Amazon, OR FUCKING VOTE, then nothing will happen. And it will get even worse. And more people will suffer and die.
We need mutual solidarity pacts to help support each other. No one wants to do the “helping” though and only wants the support. Its just so god damn infuriating.
Thank you, it’s absolutely the real problem. Coddled ass American public. Can’t even change their food habits in the face of economic ruin.
High egg prices are not economic ruin.
More than just eggs are on the way
I don’t see it as coddled. I see it as a mass mental health disorder. Got stress? Best cure is to buy things! This is shoved in our faces constantly since we are the epitome of government run by businesses and kids raised on social media it’s 95% ads disguised as culture and content. The only culture we have is buy shit culture.
Why? Let them buy. At least some Mexicans can get a few additional coins out of that.
And kill the climate? No, stop buying eggs.
Why?
I got down to my last egg like a month ago and keep thinking about when and how I should use it. Technically I could afford to buy more but it’s the principle of the thing; not so much about not being a Spoiled American but I really don’t want to support the companies price gouging these things. But I was also making a loaf of challah almost every week and I don’t think my flax meal substitute will work for that…
My solitary, lonely egg. Just chillin in the fridge.
Maybe I should start my morning with an egg sandwich tomorrow.
A very good and principled reason. I think you should have that egg sandwich in the morning!
A good egg replacement is fish. Canned fish can do if you can stomach it. Also artisanal cheeses like Brie or Camembert (I’m sure local American farmers make some). It’s hard to replace eggs properly, they are nature’s vitamin boosters.
A friend of mine has sworn by canned sardines for years.
They are great! I prefer canned herring, but sardine is a very close second.
Some of them are really good. The aversion to canned fish is largely very American and I don’t understand where it comes from. There are a wide variety of canned fishes out there; it’s not all Bumblebee tuna.
And they make a fantastic food for your emergency supplies if you are in a disaster-prone area.
We have cut back on our egg usage but I have a vegetarian daughter who doesn’t like beans, and eggs are a significant part of her diet. Obviously she doesn’t eat fish. I have a severe lactose intolerance so there aren’t many cheeses I eat, and even when I do eat something like Gouda or feta it is very small amounts. Also I’ve never seen local brie or Camembert, my wife would love if there was.
I could suggest buying quails and eating their eggs. My friend did this and the quails fit in a small wood cabin (as small as a dog house). She had fresh eggs everyday. They are low maintenance compared to chickens.
Most people don’t consider eggs to be vegetarian. Especially the ones who are vegetarian for animal welfare reasons.
You are wrong. I’ve met many vegetarians that ate eggs and fish. Vegetarians are not a monoliths.
I’m not wrong. I used to be a vegetarian. There are different types. Some eat eggs and or milk and some don’t. Most don’t eat eggs, but some do.
From Google:
While a precise percentage is difficult to pinpoint, it’s estimated that a significant portion of vegetarians, particularly in the West, do eat eggs, often identifying as lacto-ovo vegetarians.
This is a common type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, poultry, and seafood, but includes dairy products and eggs.
In some cultures and religions, like Hinduism, vegetarianism often excludes eggs, while in the West, it’s more common to see vegetarians who include eggs in their diet.
At that point you’re basically vegan
