This was always an impressive emulator - it was originally made for the Open Pandora (an ARM-based mini-computer not much bigger than a DS). It’s always been free for that - it’s just, you know, you’d have to own an Open Pandora (I do!)

We create and produce outstanding original content true to the Vice brand. However, it is no longer cost-effective for us to distribute our digital content the way we have done previously.

Moving forward, we will look to partner with established media companies to distribute our digital content, including news, on their global platforms, as we fully transition to a studio model. As part of this shift, we will no longer publish content on vice.com, instead putting more emphasis on our social channels as we accelerate our discussions with partners to take our content to where it will be viewed most broadly.

Separately, Refinery 29 will continue to operate as a standalone diversified digital publishing business, creating engaging, social first content. Mmmm. It’s the instance that people are on on that’s doing (or not doing) much of the work there. If you comment on a post, the instance will send 1 copy to me (who’s responsible for federating it out to other Lemmy instances) and 1 copy to Mastodon for the post’s author.

If you reply to a Lemmy comment, it doesn’t send it to Mastodon because it’s not for the author (in much the same way that you don’t get replies to replies in your inbox if you’re the OP of a Lemmy post). For local posts, both Mastodon and Lemmy show the local comment tree, but neither can show every Fediverse interaction because they never hear about them.

Likewise, if you reply to a Mastodon comment, your instance will send it to the comment author, but not the post author, so won’t appear anywhere under their post.

As for Mastodon comments on Lemmy … it depends. I follow some accounts, so when I post them to Lemmy, top-level comments come through automatically (again, though, I never hear about replies to replies). Other content is just stuff I’ve seen and grabbed. I often post the existing replies, but not if they’ve turned Authorized Fetch on, and I don’t typically go back and check for more later.

They can, yes. The lemmy instance that a particular user is on handles that. This community is mostly about getting the posts and comments into lemmy in the first place.

Star Wars has always been too flakey to say Rebels are definitely this, or the the Empire are definitely that. It’s popularity, and it’s use by people on any part of the political spectrum as a a recruitment tool, depends on the fact that the US is magically both.

Star Wars is often “Schrödinger’s Political Allegory” - the Empire is British/Roman/German but also American (if Endor = Vietnam, and Jedha = the Middle East), but the Rebels are somehow American too. Whatever side you’re on, you can use Star Wars to cast yourself as the good guy, and the other side as the baddies.

Just to say, I massively prefer the name ‘microblogmemes’ over ‘whitepeopletwitter’. That was always a weird one - posts didn’t always involve white people, didn’t always come from Twitter (which - technically - doesn’t even exist anymore) and seemed based on a petty misunderstanding of what Black People Twitter was.

FWIW, I agree with you about the Denny’s post. I’m also the moderator of a community that Stamets has quit, so I know that losing him is a blow, because he posts a lot of content. But I also know that he’s a complicated human.
