Reading this, specifically had me think of an old friend i had. He was always sceming. Every time i saw him he had a new one. Weather he was stealing company supplies from his employer, so he could start his own landscaping business, or asking me to use my doordash account, or wanting me to help him start a flower business, which i never helped with any of it because i dont agree with lying/cheating through life, while every bit of his life seemed some backdoor plan- I would have dated him, once apon a time, but ten years into the friendship, he sent me a ben Shapiro video, a d a few years ago, i terminated the friendship. Every thing was transactional with that man. He was good looking and kind, but my god these traits were such a turn off, I dont care if you work at hime depot, or the hardware store- my husband today is a chef- its better than scheming to rip someone off so you can get ahead. Thats selfish imo.

As a fat highschooler, ehen, as a fat woman highschooler, i got rejected so many times. Never once did it make me hate and distrust men. Because every person is their own.
Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was transEnglish2·12 days agoI’m sorry. Cabot is better than any store brand I’ve had, I only started buying it because it is regional to me years ago.
There may still be some local cheese brands available to you. Small farm cheese makers make some good stuff. At one point in my life, I didn’t eat much meat or dairy, but when I did, I bought what was local to me, even if it was expensive, and cherished it each time I indulged. I respected that locally made small farm cheese like it was the god of cheeses and gave it utmost culinary respect, while trying to make it last as long as possible.
Suffer on your own terms I say. If you want good cheese, have good cheese, the suffer would be you have less cheese overall, but at least when you do, you know it is quality and supports local makers.

Did they run away too?
Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.comto News@lemmy.world•Walmart fires 6'4" cisgender woman threatened by man who thought she was transEnglish13·14 days agoThis falls under “suffer on my own terms” for me. I won’t go to Walmart, so we’re going without extras. There’s no cheese in my house right now because none was on sale at my local grocery store. So instead of going to Walmart, or paying $4 for a block of Cabot cheddar at my grocer, the choice is go without cheese for the time being.
Used to shop minimally at Walmart anyway, now I refuse to go. I go to my local co-op 2ce a week now though.
Bulk spices are cheap y’all.
Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I'm pretty sure all of us have given up on any boomer giving us anything anywayEnglish1·4 months agoHonestly, my mother, born 1961, received $250K in 2000 when my great grandparents passed. my grandmother, has always bought things for my mom: cars, car repairs, her insurance, grocery shopping, and a few vacations over the years.
My mother has not so much as ever taken me shopping, not even when I was a kid. My other parent, the broke one, bought us everything. My mom, did stretch her inheritance pretty far, but only because her parents helped her out with month to month stuff. It annoys me to no end.
She’s spent the last 15 years convincing my grandmother, her mom, to spend it all. And she has. For me, two generations ago my great grandparents (second Gen immigrant) had accumulated over a million dollars in straight cash.
I’ll get nothing. If my family actually had love there- if my mother actually took care of me and her other children, I wouldn’t be mad, id understand. That’s not how it went down. My mom spent every, has nothing but a new car left now, the last thing my grandmother bought her, the inheritance gone and she’s now a part time babysitter, after not working 30 years. She was on disability too, this whole time, my entire youth, for get this- mental health. I got to therapy every week still to this day to address my childhood and continued struggles, the same as she did, but she got disability in the 90s when everyone could sign on easily it seems. Her whole life paid for.
I haven’t spoken to her in closet to 7, 8 years now. I can’t imagine my story is unique when it comes to the subject.
My husbands parents are the opposite of my mother, both types of people exist but it’s infuriating to go through what I have with my family. To literally watch your “generational wealth” get flushed.

What rule would you change?English1·7 months agoI thought on this also, and I suppose in my “rule” to adhere by I would have to choose a time in human history. I’d likely choose a time from year 0-1000 but would need to research and get input from folks smarter than I before choosing the time that rule would be implemented.
Of course, it only bans colonization. This is specifically the act of taking over lands from those who are indigenous to said lands, usually by force. If the governments of two lands what to trade or sell their lands in agreement without force, this would not be illegal.
I’m certain humans would still find a way to be horrible in some other new fun way.

Colonizing other lands outside of your own established borders would be forbidden.
How different the world would be.
I support mens health.
Ive a million stories of hurt men who didnt deal or heal well with their hurt, and ended up hurting others (and themselves) for it. Usually its some tragic thing that happened when they were young and never dealt with it, because culturally men have been told to shove it down and man up for decades at least. But, I’ve been told many a tragedy from male family members, friends and ex lovers. And then watched them go from victim to abuser, or some other consequence, and its sad
Men should be taught, and allowed to express themselves. Its literally okay to cry, its a process of emotion.
