with a rear reader I could grab my phone and it would be unlocked with an index finger before I’ve even lifted it to my face. it was all one smooth motion.

Now, I have to pull it out of my pocket, orient it correctly so my thumb can hit the correct part of the screen, half the time shake the phone or swipe up to wake up the screen to make the reader work consistently, then hold down my thumb for at least a second longer than I would have to with my rear reader.

He can say whatever he wants, and I have no doubt the idiot actually believes it. After all, he said he was going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. He Said he was going to deport all DACA child. Hell, if I remember correctly, he said during the last campaign that he was going to leave NATO as well unless they fucking paid him, like it’s some sort of protection racket.

Despite the recent SC ruling, and despite four years of failing to actually do anything he said he could do, he still believes he’s a god-king. But with the exception of a presidential decree, which can be blocked by congress; nothing he’s fucking babbling about can just “be done” on his word. It has to pass Congress and the Senate, which will, despite the eventual winner of the presidency, remain close enough in seats for cooler heads to stop his bullshit. There are enough republicans, even in a Trump administration, that would never dream of fucking up that much.

The point is, Trump is a fucking idiot. And while the supreme court has made him effectively immune to criminal prosecution, his ability to do almost anything without eventually bumping up against the actual adults in the room is still pretty limited.

If he actually had the power to do what he says he can, he would have done it in his first term. But even in a party of of racists and MAGA, there are enough adults to keep him distracted with colouring books.

I had switched to HeliBoard in order to de-Google as much as possible. I’m not militant about it, but if there’s an alternative I’ll take it.

Decided to try out FUTO because I felt like I was missing swipe typing. And it’s good. But for me it’s just too much. It turns out I didn’t really miss swipe typing, and (possibly just a me issue) that extra feature was making FUTO much less responsive than Heliboard. So back I went.

I guess for me, simple and fast is more important than replicating my old Gboard experience. But each person is different.

On the upside, it sounds like Starmer is saying he’ll be dead soon.

It’s basically saying that their main defining characteristic as a group is their colour rather than anything about who they are culturally.

I find that, at least with local Canadian Politics, they’re pretty accurate at least. So I’m guessing it would be similar for the U.S, although the number of so-called “media” sources is far larger.

I think Married With Children has managed to come through unscathed because of Ed O’Neil and who he is as a person. He’s so much the opposite of Al Bundy and has always been very open about that. The show as a result falls into that same category as South Park or All in the Family; We understand that the jokes are meant to be satire via absurdity; It’s so over the top and the actor is so different in real life that we just get it.

Compare that to something like Home Improvement, where we know that the humour isn’t meant to be absurdist, and we know that Tim Allen really is a douche.

I never saw those moments as Kif being homophobic. I read it as a subordinate being repulsed by the idea of seeing his commanding officer naked.

That allows the people to get their hate out, and resets the playing field for the next election cycle when people realize the Conservatives haven’t done shit all to make life more affordable.

Traditionally this hasn’t been how Canadian politics has played out. We tend to have long running federal governments over single term governments except in cases of extremely disastrous political results (ie. forcing an early election by a vote of non-confidence, etc…)

Canadian voters seem to be very very patient. It won’t matter how shitty PP and the Cons are as a government, voters will keep on electing them in for a decade or more before finally having enough. Same as we did with the Liberals, and same as we did with Harper before that.

The war in Ukraine has proven that what they say they can do and what they can actually do, militarily speaking, is vastly different. I’d be surprised at this point if a russian ICBM isn’t just a homing pidgeon with a grenade strapped to it.

Actually. As someone who worked in a small radio station news department for a pretty long time, I’m actually not accusing them of malfeasance as much as I’m accusing them of “over-eagerness” if that makes sense.

There’s just too much information floating around thanks to every Tom, Dick and Harry having a blog, or a tik tok, or a twitter account, all claiming to be “insiders” in one way or another. Far too much for the media to be able to properly vet every single piece of information that they get thoroughly. And it leads to mistakes.

But as an ex-media person, I aver that it’s not the media “making shit up” as the narrative nowadays seems to be. It’s more that they are reporting everything faster than ever in the hopes of beating the competition and as a result getting a lot of things wrong.

Does it make them complicit…absolutely. They need to do better. But it make them the “evil” ones. No. Not at all. The boots on the ground, so-to-speak, the everyday journalist’s job, passion, raison d’etre has always been to report the news and bring it to the people. To speak truth to power and all that rigamarole. The problem is that there’s too much information floating around to do that properly anymore.
