Japan’s Ami Yuasa, who competed simply as Ami,** **wowed the judges to win gold in the first-ever Olympic breaking (aka breakdancing) competition in Paris on Friday.
Is this for real? I wondered if “breaking” was going to be about smashing boards with karate chops. The answer in terms of Olympic sports turned out even more surprising.
I was thoroughly impressed with the skill level of the participants. Although I haven’t been to a high level event since Covid, there were a lot of elements I’ve never seen done in women’s battles
Now I really look forward to the mens event too, to see if they have evolved just as much
I put the finals on yesterday and had to nope out due to second hand embarrassment at the entire thing.
Congrats to her and Raygun’s new found fame. I loved watching the whole thing and look forward to watching the men’s competition tomorrow.
