One in five Americans (20 per cent) polled by Leger this week say they would like their state to join Canada, more than double the proportion of Canadians who said they would like their country to become the 51st state of the United States. Article content

“Only 9 per cent of Canadians believe it is likely that Canada will become the 51st U.S. state. By contrast, 20 per cent of Americans would like their state to join Canada and become a Canadian province, a proportion that is higher among respondents aged 18 to 34 (30 per cent),” reads the new Léger report.

I don’t want my state to join Canada (it’s a red state far from the border), but I want to immediately move to one of the states that would be joining Canada. So I think the poll results would be even higher if the question was asked in a way to include people who would answer like I did.

Well, maybe if the state joins after the Moose Cavalry crushes all resistance before it and the whole damn country other than Texas gets annexed.

Texas was, obviously, burned to the ground and the earth salted and irradiated.

The colonies are coming back you say?

turns on dramatic lights and orchester playing

“You say The price of my love’s not a price that you’re willing to pay You cry In your tea, which you hurl in the sea when you see me go by Why so sad? Remember, we made an arrangement when you went away Now, you’re making me mad Remember, despite our estrangement, I’m your man You’ll be back, soon, you’ll see You’ll remember you belong to me You’ll be back, time will tell You’ll remember that I served you well Oceans rise, empires fall We have seen each other through it all And when push comes to shove I will send a fully armed battalion to remind you of my love!”

If Trump wants us to have a referendum on joining the U.S. as the 51st state, we should ask him in return for a binding referendum in any one state of our choice on joining Canada. Which state should we choose?

Ooh that’s a tough one. I mean, CA, NY, and MA are all pretty good choices. But I think CA would be the best pick if you could only get one. Though MA would be a surer bet on the referendum outcome, I think. Lots of people in northern CA are redneck AF.

I think CA probably wouldn’t vote to join Canada. But Washington state might.

How do you feel about instantly becoming the most economically powerful country in the world? Also California has the sexiest people in the continent.

Oh I think it’s a great idea, and I love CA. Unfortunately, I don’t live there so I wouldn’t be able to reap the rewards. Though if it were really going to happen, I know there’d be a lot of chuds selling cheap and running for the midwest so I’d definitely make the move. Right now my job has me anchored on the other coast so I only get to be in CA for a couple of weeks a year (incidentally, for work).

I want to be Canadian so BAD, been looking to move for the past 5 years. That looks less and less like a possibility. Y’all don’t need more people competing for housing. Please take all the West Coast, which is and always has been an inseparable part of Canada.

Oddly, I feel Mexico is a better fit for my state of California, especially with their recent cool shift in an educated President. Maybe we can get a sort of E.U. style thing except for Canada, Mexico and blue states, plus whoever else would make sense.

If given an independence option (well really it would only be viable if other Northeastern states left,) I’d vote for that, but if it’s just stay or join Canada I’d vote for joining Canada.

Had this thought in Michigan last week when riding my bike in just-above-freezing air on a trail and seeing trees tapped for maple syrup. I bought a bottle of Canadian sparkling water, too. If the state is not Canadian, why mitten shaped?

If I weren’t ~200 miles away with only a bike (and most of that is not bike-friendly) I’d definitely be like

Content Description: a man (named Eric Andre) in a suit and tie on a sidewalk is grabbing a metal fence and yelling "Let me in. Let me innnnn!"

    which is realistic

because I know they wouldn’t (health/money). Even if I could get an ID then passport, I am not social enough to get sponsored.

Can’t they just take my brain for science instead?
