Summary

Chinese state media praised Trump’s decision to defund Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Asia (RFA), calling them purveyors of “malicious falsehoods” about China.

The order slashes funding for the US Agency for Global Media, putting 1,300 VOA staff on leave. Critics, including RFA’s president, say the move rewards authoritarian regimes and weakens global press freedom.

Cambodian journalists fear a worsening media climate. VOA reporters reject claims of bias, arguing their work provides vital independent news in repressive regions.

RFA’s union plans to challenge the cuts.

Imagine that, dictatorship-oriented measures being praised by… actual established dictatorships like Russia or China.

Quite the natural step forward for the ‘freest’ nation on the globe, I dare say. Remember, kids - if a dictator praises you, that means you’re doing something right.
